FAQ

FAQ

  • Do you rent horses for leisure or trail rides?

No. We do have people come for occasional or one-time trail rides (with friends or visiting family, for example), but an Inavale instructor will be with you on the ride. These types of rides are billed at the same rate as regular lessons.

An exception to this is that we occasionally have regular students who would like some extra practice time between lessons, so they can rent a horse for a practice ride, assuming the instructor is comfortable with that student’s ability to tack up and ride unsupervised.

  • How do riding lessons work?

Most people come once a week at a consistent time. We try to fit people into groups or semi-private (2 riders) lessons whenever possible, if the schedule permits. Occasionally a rider can only come every other week, but that is more difficult to fit in. Your instructor will plan on you being here unless you notify her 24 hours or more in advance.

  • How young can I start my son/daughter in lessons or day camp?

We have the occasional confident six year old, but usually seven is the magic number.

  • Can I haul my own horse in to use the arena?

No. Our arenas are reserved for resident horses and lessons.

  • If my horse lives there, can I bring my own instructor?

No. Scheduling does not allow for independent instructors to have arena time. Our instructors and resident horses keep the arenas busy enough; you will want to haul your horse to your instructor’s barn.

  • Do you allow stallions?

Stallions are allowed at competitions, but not as resident boarders.

  • Do you have trailer parking?

Yes, boarders are allowed to park trailers here at no extra charge (uncovered).

  • Do you allow dogs?

Yes, but they need to be very well behaved. All dogs are on leash between 10:00 and 12:00 every day, when the next door kennel dogs are out for their walks. Some people who bring dogs keep them leashed around the barn, then unleash them on the trail, which is fine. Dogs who bark, bite, or chase horses need to stay home.

  • Do you offer driving lessons?

No. We host the CDE in July, but it is run by a different group of people.

  • How big is your trail network?

We are on 160 acres, about a third of which is in the forest. The woods trails are about 3 kilometers. Added to the field perimeters, you could ride for 1-2 hours without crossing your path much.

  • Do you allow camping?

Yes, during the summer, for people who are here to school the cross country course. Camping is not fancy, it’s just a field to park and/or pitch a tent. Water and portapotties are nearby.

  • If my horse lives there, how does turnout work?

We have several fields dedicated to turnouts. We offer turnout service through the barn on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings (out about 7:30, in about noon). The rest of the time the fields are available for boarders to use to do their own turnouts.
