Training 3-Day Competition

Riders in 2009's first Gallops Saddlery Training 3-Day at Inavale Farm were thrilled with the opportunities the long format event provided. This June we are excited to offer our second Training 3-day competition in conjunction with the horse trials.

USEA's Definintion: To preserve the Classic Three-Day format that includes Phases A & C (Roads & Tracks), B (Steeplechase), D(Endurance), that provides the necessary experience to produce a higher level of horsemanship by combining educational components in conjunction with a competition format.

Qualifications:
Effective April 1, 2010, the Federation approved national rules specifically for the Training and Preliminary Three-Day Classic format, for inclusion in the 2010 USEF Rules for Eventing.

As a USEF Endorsed Competition, the T3D is a qualifier to move up to the  Preliminary horse trials level and the P3D, as a USEF Recognized Division, a qualifier for the Intermediate horse trials level and CCI1*.
Training Three-Day Event (T3D) qualifications:  Open to competitors of any age, on horses four years of age or older. Both the competitor and the horse must have obtained NQR’s at four horse trials at the Training Level or higher, one of which must be attained as a combination. A competitor established at the Preliminary level may compete on a horse which has obtained 2 NQR’s at the Training Level or higher.

Participants will learn about all aspects of the long-format competition, with emphasis on those phases not normally included in a regular horse trials. Riders will hear from Area VII coaches and riders about horse inspections (trot-up), steeplechase, and roads & tracks phases, and have the opportunity to practice for these phases before the competition. The veterinarian will speak about what to expect in the 10-minute box on cross country day, and special course walks for T3D competitors will be offered for cross country and show jumping.

If you are interested in participating this year, keep this page bookmarked, as we will be updating it with recommendations for conditioning, tentative schedule, and other tips for getting yourself and your horse ready.
